She stared blankly at her reflection
An incredulous look slowly fell onto her face
As she saw an image of a grotesque figure gazing back at her
The vivacity that once danced care freely as a silver sparkle in her sky blue eyes
Was replaced by a glazed gawk
That showed no life at all
Her wounds were fresh
Purple bruises covered her right cheek and chin
Her once soft and tender lips were now swollen and distended
From his mighty fist
He made it perspicuous that
It was impossible to mollify his rage
And the bellicose dispute and the resulting lacerations
That encased her face
Proved his point
A salty tear rolled down her swelling skin
A trail of blood followed not far behind
She couldn’t stand to see her likeness
In the glass anymore
She limped away from the mirror
And towards the backdoor
Where her superpowers did not exist
She sighed as she pushed the door open
A frigid wind slapped her face
Along with reality
She knew she couldn’t be a heroine anymore
Because she couldn’t even save herself
From herself
